Today began like every other day; early morning calls from the little one, from his cot. We headed downstairs and it was a race to get his breakfast ready quick enough. He loves porridge but hates waiting for it to cool down! Once it had cooled, he eagerly spooned it into his mouth whilst I sat down with a hot coffee and caught up on my messages.

Today we had an important meeting, which was to be the first of many for D. We were to attend his first ‘Me and My World’ review.

Today started as most days do, with the chatter of a little voice. D was awake! He greeted me with smiles and cuddles as I lifted him out of his cot. Life can be busy in foster care with appointments and visits, but today we had nothing scheduled in, so I was planning to take D to playgroup for the first time.

We got dressed, had breakfast, took the older children to school, then drove to a local playgroup.

Today I was awoken by our foster child D, calling for me from his cot. It was 6.30am and he had slept well all night. As I wandered into his bedroom, I was greeted with smiles and arms stretched out wide for a cuddle. It was a lovely greeting. I scooped him out of his cot and he cuddled in tight.

The day had finally come

Just over a year after we had made our initial enquiry, and attended a fostering information session, we were awaiting the arrival of our first child. It had been a busy year, being assessed, trained and then finally going to panel to be approved as Foster Carers.
